This weekend I attended a leadership conference at Michigan State University and had a mind blowing experience. Among countless points and quotes, one quote will certainly stick with me even more than others. That quote is the title of this post. Where your mind goes, your body follows.

What exactly does that mean? It seems like just another cliche quote from a motivational speaker. While this quote does come a motivational speaker, Ryan Porter, it is far from cliche.

Let me ask you something: Where are you investing your time? Since you’re reading this, I assume you spend a lot of time on the internet. But what else do you do? Do you do all your homework? Do you volunteer? Do you do drugs, drink? Do you rationalize drinking “just with friends”? Whatever you do, even if it is just “one time” or small, it will shape the direction of your life.

Another question: What is your life goal? For me, it’s to have a Godly family. For others it may be to have their dream job, live in Europe. Whatever it may be, it’s a target. What are you doing today to achieve that goal? If most of your time is spent of Facebook, for an example, chances are is that it’ll become a habit. The same goes for drinking, smoking, volunteering, doing homework, etc. Is what you’re doing right now helping you to achieve your dream, your goal? Your actions are an extension of yourself.

Next time you spend your day focusing on killing time on the internet, partying hard, or sleeping all day ask yourself: is this helping me to get where I want to be? Or is this just instant gratification, not pushing more forward. Whatever your mind is focused on, that is where your body will go. Focus on the internet, you become a slave to society. Focus on achieving your goals, you accept yourself and have control of your future.

Begin with the end in mind.
